Hello, dear friends.
As I sat down to write this letter to you, I found I had no words. I think they’re with my cat. Romeo stays out til dawn several nights a week. I trust he, and my words, will be back soon.
The short reason I’m without words is because I struggle to write as Simone and for a brand (my job) at the same time. I lose track of who is who, whose voice is whose, and the results are neither this nor that. My loved ones detect the shift in my writing voice and I love them for it. However, here we are. Me without words, writing you a newsletter. This is going to be good :)
=There’s probably a deeper reason I misplace my voice from time to time (and by lose my voice, I don’t mean my actual voice, I mean, my writing voice—the one you’re reading this very second) but I don’t have the words for it right now, so let’s surf the web instead. 🏄♀️
Dr. Becky
I think you know by now, I like Dr. Becky Kennedy for parenting tips. I found her on Instagram some years ago. Since, she’s really taken off.
Read her book. Subscribe to her newsletter. Enroll in her workshops. I know she’ll help you become a better parent—or your money back! (I added that for effect.)
Blanket Statement
I’m told the Blanket Shirt is all the rage. I don’t own one myself. In fact, I only just got the memo. But someone I love loves the blanket shirt. Therefore, it’s good enough to recommend to you. I own a blanket and a shirt. If only I could put them together…
Air Quotes
I work with someone who recites quotes in a way you can’t imagine. I certainly can’t, and I bear witness to it. He rattles them off like he’s reciting Shakespeare. He’s also fluent in Chinese and can spout out the first 200 numbers of Pi from memory (or maybe it’s 2,000).
Because he’s not here to inspire us, I’ll share these 24 quotes from a company I admire. I enjoyed the read. I hope you do, too.
The company they come from is called DO. If I understood what they did (or do), I’d be the first to tell you. Instead, hunt around, subscribe to their newsletter and see if you enjoy them as much as I do.
There’s nothing like a brand you don’t understand but admire. Even worse, recommend them :)
The School of Life
Another company on your radar: The School of Life. They’re a London-based organization that teaches emotional skills to individuals and companies. I like their gift shop. Then again, I like to shop. Maybe you do, too.
You Totes Need Another Tote
Baggu is this week’s final recommendation. We all have bags coming out of our bags. We totes DON’T need another tote. Yet, Baggu continues to impress with its highly functional accessories and wacky prints.
There’s nothing I own from Baggu that I don’t love: The 3D Zip Set. The Standard Baggu. The Duck Bag. The Flat Pouch Set. Their masks (when those were a thing). The Packing Cube Set. The Bucket Hat.
I don’t think you can go wrong.
It’s a Date
This is the cover photo of my dating profile. I’m sharing it here so this letter has at least one picture, not so you’ll date me.
I can’t imagine the challenge of shifting between your voice and the voice of your brand. But a cool exercise I learned is to warm up by writing out a piece from the voice you want to channel and then flowing straight into a new one.
And love how artsy your profile pic is.
P.S. You haven’t lost your voice considering you clarified you’re not trying to date all of us. 😂
That's Will right? The quoter?
