Welcome! Get a load of this…
The company that taught me to express myself on the internet has hired me to help it express itself on the internet.
I’m the Creative Director for Write of Passage and I’m hungry, happy, and bruised—from all the pinches. It’s rad. I believe in them wholeheartedly. It seems they feel the same about me.
Yes, the fate of this newsletter is in question. The fate of my family is in question. But this opportunity is not in question.
I start in 10 hours.
Repeat After Me
Shortly after leaving Heath Ceramics, I tuned my frequency according to Joe Dispenza’s book, Becoming Supernatural. I took the long game in summoning a career that had me saying, “I can’t believe I get to do this.” When I recognized believing was the whole point, I changed it, “I get to do this!” which I’d repeat often and feel often.
Nothing happened. Until one day, it did.
It wasn’t until this position with Write of Passage landed in my lap, even several days later, that I realized—this is that job—the one I tuned my frequency to. Victory!
The Juggle is Real
Back to the newsletter and my family. I assure you, both are quite stable. I think. I mean, I’m sure. There’s nothing to worry about. I got this?
Current situation: 10:44 pm (at least two hours past my bedtime). I’m in Emma’s bed while she sleeps on the trundle beneath me. I gave my bedroom to my aunt who’s in town caring for my four children (two four-leggeds, two two-leggeds) while I’m away on business—new job, remember?
Nothing is where it’s supposed to be. My bags are half packed, my earplugs are not where I left them, my newsletter is not out, and I’m tired from a false-alarm incident at 4 am.
The juggle IS real. And, the gratitude is, as well.
Rich Silverstein AKA Dad
There’s a good chance much of my creative spirit trickles down from my dad. We’re cut from a similar cloth, our trees and apples don’t fall far from one another. We’re undeniably related.
He’s a relentless creative. An inspiration. A nutty guy with more passion than fits in any bottle. As I write and given what I said about our undeniable relationship, does this describe me in some way, too?
Guess what, that’s a very difficult comparison for me to make. When Rich Silverstein is your dad, there’s a shadow, and you’re in it. Or maybe I’ve repeated that often and felt it, too. I’m uncovering this as I type. And, while I wish to share my vulnerability with you, it’s now 11:14 pm—sufficiently past my bedtime. We’ll tackle this another day. Promise.
In the meantime, please enjoy this mini-documentary about him. It’s really lovely, even if he’s not your dad (and he’s not, unless Aaron is reading this, and he’s not).
And, here’s a glimpse of him with my kiddos.
Yesterday, my kids took the ferry into San Francisco and spent the day with him and my step-mom. They visited Goodby, Silverstein & Partners (where he’s a Creative Director—apple-tree), followed by lunch at a fancy restaurant, a visit to Nike, then back to the ferry, and mama’s arms.
The poor children had no fun.
Quinn, the agency’s photographer, captured them in the metaverse.
I think I’m there, too.
Writer, Hired
Mike says, “Write on!”
Congratulations! We watched the video about your dad and lo and behold there was Adam skateboarding. Also cute little you. We wish you much success. Love, Pam and Mike
