I had no idea about the three recommended phone-free zones - so thank you! I'll add that to my next post about devices and maybe mention it in my twitter space today on devices.

How about an hour or even ½ hour a day of allowed bedroom phone time? At least for Owen. Teenagers need some privacy from their parents.

I agree. He deserves privacy.

1. I don't believe his dad has any rules about this, so 50% of the time, he gets free rein.

2. He's welcome to wear headphones and by no means am I standing over his shoulder.

3. Unless he's watching porn, there's not much difference between being in the living room and behind a closed door.

Parenting today, with phones, is unreal.

Is it challenging that his “rules” are different at his dads? If this is not too personal, I’d love to hear or shall I say read about your thoughts on this.

It is! I'll see what I can write without throwing anyone under the 🚌 :)

Your Mom and I would have loved the road trip. The bedroom phone discussion could have been more prepared, but you happen to be right. Is he now spending more time in your “outdoor commons”?

You two would have loved Jerome! He's spending time in the common areas and if he does go in his room with his phone (eeek) he has to keep the door open.

I very much can relate to your feelings about the horrific events in Nashville. I somehow felt more connected knowing these kids were my (our) daughters age. The things we navigate as parents are so much more complex and horrific than when we were kids. Which also includes the phone topic. Having already raised two kids (now 25 & 28) kids having phones only started becoming a thing when they were teenagers, and even then very few had text/FaceTime/camera capabilities let alone the internet. It’s been new territory having so much technology during Cedar’s childhood. I like your suggestion; not at the table or car… not totally sold on “not in the bedroom” and I need to know how this unfolds and works or doesn’t work for you! Please keep us updated.

Also, love the trip photos and I invite you to share more! (Maybe I need to check social media to see if you posted any over there lol)
