Hi Simone,

Your story of the San Quentin painting was very moving. I’m sure the fellow was happy to hear how his work found its eventual home and how you came about it. I love that you take the time to find living connections even on death row. M

When you go to prison, may we write you letters?

I loved this. More letters in The Letter!

I adore John's cursive.

You can write me letters when I'm in prison. Thank you :) More letters coming. John's cursive is unique and not always readable. It's real-deal cursive.

Long time reader, first time commenter. I love seeing your newsletter in my inbox. I love reading it immediately and also throughout the week. I just love it.

One of my best buds is a social justice artist. She posed a similar question 20 years ago to a man in solitary confinement for 30 years: what kind of house does a man who lives in a 6’x9’ cell dream of? It spawned an almost 2 decades long collaboration, check it out! Check her out!

The House that Herman Built , Solitary Gardens and Jackie Sumell.

Keep going! xoxo

I really enjoyed reading this essay Simone. I found myself so moved by the way you switched between your personal narrative and the stuff you narrativised in the letters, but to tell an altogether different tale which was in itself quite moving. :)

Thank you, Malavika. It's a different style for me. It wasn't intentional—it's what came out. Thanks for being here.
